California Cleaning Product Regulation
This is an important check mark for the manufacturers who sells or distributes cleaning products in California.
The California Cleaning Product Right to Know Act has come into effect from January 01, 2021.This enforced online and on-label ingredient disclosure requirements for a wide variety of cleaning products like soap and detergents.
This act wants the manufacturer to update their product labels to disclose the presence of intentionally added ingredients and fragrances. Penalties are up to $2,500 per violation.
Prop 65 Update – Warning changes
Amendments restricting use of Prop 65 Short-form warnings, proposed by California on January 8, 2021.
The change was brought because of over usage of short-form warning by companies, even when they have no knowledge of product contains any chemicals on the list.
Below are the changes bought in:
1. Short-form warning used only when total surface area of product label is 5 sq. inch or less.
2. Package shape or size cannot accommodate full length warning.
3. Warning should not be printed in a smaller size than the largest type used.
4. Contents of short-form warning should have
- The warning symbol
- Word “WARNING” in capital and bold.
- Warning statement that indicates – carcinogen or toxic to reproduction
- At least one chemical listed under carcinogen/toxic to reproduction.
